Skilled Workers & Professionals

Find Out If You Qualify

Skilled workers are selected as permanent residents based on their education, work experience, knowledge of English and/or French, and other criteria that have been shown to help them become economically established in Canada.

Eligibility:
In order to qualify for a Canada Immigration as Canadian Federal Skilled Worker (Professional) applicants must:

  • Have at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in the past 10 years in one of the 38 qualifying occupations; or
  • Have been living in Canada with legal status as a Temporary Foreign Worker or an international student for at least one year; or
  • Have an offer of arranged employment.

Additionally applicants must receive at least 67 points based on Citizenship and Immigration Canada's (CIC) immigration selection factors.

The selection factors are summarized as follows:

Education: Applicants are awarded up to 25 points.
Language Skills: Applicants are awarded up to 24 points.
Work Experience: Applicants are awarded up to 21 points.
Age: Applicants are awarded up to 10 points.
Arranged Employment:  Applicants are awarded up to 10 points.
Adaptability: Applicants are awarded up to 10 points.

Process:

1. Initial Application submitted at Sydney, Nova Scotia’s Central Intake office along with IELTS and Fees.

2. Submission of a full and complete application with supporting documents to the Local Canadian Immigration Visa Office.

3. A  Canadian Immigration Visa Officer will make a detailed analysis of all the information contained in the application and of all the supporting documents and assess the application against the current selection criteria and pass mark.
  
4. A personal interview may or may not be required. An interview may be required to Verify work experience and/or education, clear up inconsistent information and/or documentation.
5. Medical instructions are issued and police clearances are required upon completion of a successful interview or if the interview is waived.

6. Request for your passport and right of Permanent Resident fee.

7. Issuance of your Canada immigration (Permanent Resident) Visa.
