US Visa Holder Immigration

Are you currently working in the United States in a temporary skilled worker visa category?

The Alberta Immigration Program for US Work Visa Holders

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program has introduced a US Visa Holder Category which is designed to enable skilled foreign nationals working in the US to enter into Alberta’s labor force through applying for Canadian permanent residence. The purpose of the program is to help fill shortages in priority employment sectors in Alberta, in order to build its future skilled workforce. The US Visa Holder Category provides for an expedited application process which, if successful, will result in permanent residence status in Canada.

You may qualify for Canadian Permanent Residency through the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) if;

  • You demonstrate an intention to live permanently in Alberta;
  • You are currently working in the US and possess a visa in one of the following categories: H1-B, H1-B1, H-1C, E-3;
  • You must continue to hold the US work visa at the time a final decision is made on the application;
  • You have a minimum of one year of work experience in the US while holding one of the qualifying visas; and
  • Your current occupation must be on the Alberta “Occupations Under Pressure List.” There are currently some 80 occupations on the list. The general categories of listed occupations include:
  • Information Technology Occupations
